Researchers have developed a bioengineered chewing gum that reduced levels of HPV—a virus strongly linked to certain mouth and throat cancers—by as much as 93% in saliva samples.
The experimental gum is designed to target HPV and other potentially harmful microbes in the mouth, and researchers hope to move into clinical trials next. Could something as ordinary as chewing gum eventually become another tool in cancer prevention?
