Finding a Biological Dentist and Why It Matters

Benefits of Going To A Biological Dentist

As I wrote about in my article, Why A Biological Dentist Should Be On Your Team of Cancer Experts, the tendency of many of us when faced with a cancer diagnosis is to put dental care at the bottom of our priority list. But that’s opposite of what we should do.

There are a number of physicians around the world who won’t take you as a cancer patient until you correct any existing dental issues because they feel it is such an uphill battle. Why is that? Poor oral health can be a hidden contributing factor of disease and an unnecessary burden on the body’s immune system.

Treating ongoing dental issues is not merely a cosmetic issue, but could be the difference between life and death. Maybe you’re like me. When I was faced with Stage 4 Melanoma over 38 years ago, my first impulse was to focus on all I knew  — traditional cancer treatments like chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. It was quite a journey to for me to learn that lifestyle changes were the key to health.

As I slowly but surely found my way back to health, I learned some surprising things about the connection between dental health and cancer. The fact is that the simple practice of maintaining good oral health plays a crucial role in supporting your immune system, especially important when battling cancer. This is where finding a qualified biological dentist comes into play. Such a dentist will not only consider your overall health condition, but in most cases will use only biocompatible and non-toxic materials.

The Legacy of Dr. Hal Huggins

I had the privilege of knowing the late Dr. Hal Huggins, affectionately known as “Doc.” He was a pioneer in the field of mercury-free dentistry and a staunch advocate for holistic dental practices, and also a good friend. Doc believed that dental health was intrinsically linked to overall health, particularly for those battling serious illnesses like cancer.

Anyone with cancer might want to count the number of silver fillings in your mouth. How long have they been there? There is a lot of research to back up how toxic these amalgam fillings can be and what a huge load they place on the body’s immune system.

The Importance of Amalgam Removal

Amalgam fillings, commonly referred to as silver fillings, contain mercury, a toxic material that can put a considerable strain on the body’s immune system. Doc dedicated much of his career to researching the effects of mercury poisoning from dental amalgams, as well as the dangers of root canals and cavitations. One of the things he taught me was that each tooth in the mouth lines up with one of the body’s meridians (energy highways) and when a certain tooth is affected, so is its corresponding organ in the body.

Seeing Is Believing

Doc determined that a patient’s blood chemistry could be used as a method of monitoring the success of a patient’s treatment, so I had same-day (24-hour) blood tests done before and after he removed my mercury amalgams. Afterward, he prescribed mega doses of vitamin C. Before the procedure, my white blood count was high, but less than 24 hours later, my blood count was normal and my immune system improved from that point forward. I was amazed at the difference.

Why a Biological Dentist Should Be Part of Your Cancer Care Team

Poor oral health can be a hidden contributor to disease, as it adds unnecessary stress to the body’s immune system. A biological dentist, who uses biocompatible and non-toxic materials, can help address and eliminate these hidden burdens.

The Cancer and Dental Health Connection

Scientific American reported a link between mouth bacteria and colon cancer, underscoring the importance of dental health in cancer prevention and treatment. Dr. Thomas E. Levy, who I had the pleasure of interviewing, explains why cardiologists should first send their send patients to the dentist and why cancer patients must be especially vigilant concerning their dental health. I think you’ll find the interview fascinating.

Getting to the Root of Dental Health

When traditional cancer remedies failed me and I turned to natural methods to heal my cancer 38+ years ago, I researched everything that could be weakening my immune system. It didn’t take long before I realized that dental health was a significant factor. Treating ongoing dental issues is not just a cosmetic concern; it can be a matter of life and death. The simple act of addressing oral health first can make a tremendous difference in not only your overall health, but the effectiveness of your cancer treatment.

Practical Steps to Finding a Biological Dentist
