Cancer of the appendix, once seen primarily in older adults, is now rising at an alarming rate among Millennials and Generation X.
New research shows appendix cancer diagnoses have tripled to quadrupled in younger generations, with one in three patients now diagnosed before age 50—yet experts still don’t know exactly why this is happening. Researchers suspect a combination of environmental exposures, dietary changes, obesity, microbiome disruptions, and other modern lifestyle factors may be contributing to the trend.
