The odds of finding a health insurance that covers cancer treatment costs is a bit like playing roulette — especially if you’re depending upon governmental insurance such as Medicaid. Certain types of cancer are treated, while others may not be. And the determination might also be dependent upon which State you live in.

“If you’re lucky [lucky?] to be diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer, you’re good,” said Dr. Fumiko Chino, a radiation oncologist at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, who studies cancer treatment access and affordability. “But otherwise, you may have some significant obstacles.”
