The news of a connection between hair dyes and breast cancer may be surprising to some, but not to those of use who understand the link between CHEMICALS and CANCER in general.

The study, published December 4, 2019, in the International Journal of Cancer, is of special concern for black women. Researchers looked at hair product use over a 12-month period in more than 46,000 women ages 35-74 — all of whom had a sister diagnosed with breast cancer. The researchers found that permanent hair dye use in black women was associated with a 45 percent higher risk of breast cancer, while white women had a 7 percent higher risk, according to the study.

While researchers urge people not to panic — they say this study raises questions every woman should ask her doctor.
